The choice of woods to match adjacent pieces is critical. The finish should match across all joints. Clock cases are made from walnut, cherry, mahogany, or other fine woods. Veneers may be used, these may be burled or booked. Fine veneers are matched across joints so the veins match from piece to piece. Fine finishes are carved, sanded, stained, lacquered and hand rubbed.MovementsThe movement determines thequality of the clock.
Modern clock movements are machine manufactured from hardened brass.
The two major clock movement makers in the world today are Hermle and Kieninger,
both are German manufacturers.
